Apple Pie

Happily the weather turned a little feral, so I’ve had a couple of predominately lazy days.
Although I did clean up the kitchen and bake my very first apple pie!
I cheated by using the puff pastry, but I’m totally at peace with that! 🙂

I was really happy with the result and taste and reckon I might make another couple to put away in the freezer.

It was pretty easy. I greased my pie plate and lined it with a sheet of puff pastry.

In a bowl I put 1/4 cup self raising flour, 2/3 cup of sugar (Dad – please tell Mum I correctly interpreted this as two thirds and not two or three cups) 😀 (Yes there is a story there)
pinch salt, half teaspoon of nutmeg and half a teaspoon of cinnamon. (I also added a bit of cloves by accident.)

I cut 6 or so apples into small, squarish chunks and mixed them into the bowl of sugar etc, then tipped it over into the pie plate.
Added a few dobs of butter and put another sheet of pastry over the top, cut some holes and baked it at 220C for 45 minutes!

Easy !!
Cheers!

  1. Apple pie looks good. Would have never thought to use puff pastry. Now we all need to hear the story of the 2/3. I have my own pie story.

    1. 😀 I guess I will have to write down the 2/3 story! 🙂 I’ll have to wait until I make a ‘busy day pudding’ so I have the appropriate dish photos to go with it! 🙂
What happened with your pie?? The puff pastry worked well I thought. Nice and easy too!!

      1. When I was a teenager 45 years ago, I believe it was a strawberry pie I made. It was the kind you pre bake the crust and then add the berries. I was living with my sister and she invited the neighbor over. We sat down to a slice of pie and as she put her fork into it the pie flew off her plate. The crust was very tough. It was handmade not store bought crust. I was embarrassed because she was a Home Ec. teacher. She was polite and ate the pie anyway. I am much better at making pies now, they are a favorite of mine, tho I don’t do it often because I am the only one that will eat them. My husband will have one slice and that is it.

        1. Oh how funny and embarrassing – it gets funny after a bit of time goes by!! 🙂 I think I tried to make a pie of some sort a long time ago and the same deal with the crust…
My husband is the same. He loves to scoff ice cream but won’t eat much of the made desserts, so I end up eating them all – not the best idea at my age haha – its so much harder to work off!! I’ll have to get brave and try making my own crust again sometime… maybe later in winter when things are slower!! (Hoping for things to get slower :D)
