Demise of the Runner Beans

Ugh – I hate folding & putting away laundry! I don’t mind washing it, hanging it out or bringing it in. Folding is just one step too far!!
So after a few loads of laundry, the spare bed disappears and it starts becoming annoying to find the clothes you want (and matching socks)
So I had to fold. (And the fact that guests arrive tomorrow so I need the spare bed!)

In among baking & cleaning I slipped outside to attend to my garden.
I thought it was strange the runner beans hadn’t put in an appearance. They don’t usually take so long to germinate.
So I went digging…

Ah! Damn… it appears that baby millipedes really enjoy beans.
All that I dug up were rotten and filled with these little squirlies!

Disappointing but not the end of the world. After all I have tons of saved runner bean seeds. I’ll just dig it all up and start again (and maybe research millipede repellent!)

While I was lamenting my runner beans, Screecher casually arrived in the vegetable garden and helped herself to a snail! ?? I didn’t even see where the cheeky chook got in!

The hothouse is really making progress. The zucchini & pumpkin are both looking good

The butternut pumpkin that I had given up on made an appearance too!

The cucumbers look great

The rocket sat in limbo for weeks looking just the same. However suddenly they look amazing!

The tomatoes are starting to show new leaves!

I have never tried to grow fennel. Fennel is just something that happens without my assistance! No idea how it will work now that I am trying it deliberately!

And lots of lovely chillies still happening!

Well… I have had enough domestic bliss for one day! I just taste tested the banana raspberry loaf and it was pretty good… but now I have seeds stuck in my teeth! Time to get ready for bed.

Oh – before I go – A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my Very Favourite Uncle! Hope you have an excellent day! πŸ™‚

Cheers!

    1. Hi Teri – They are very daffodil-like (just small) I planted a number of random bulbs I got from a friend last year and forgot about them! πŸ™‚

      1. Thank-you!! <3 I am slowly getting better with knowing the names of the plants... but there is a LOT I don't know!

        1. They are so pretty. This is what I learned from an internet search : “Daffodil: This is the official common name for ANY of the plants that fall into the genus Narcissus. So, if the plant is considered a Narcissus, it is also considered a daffodil as well.”

          1. I didn’t know that!Thank-you! I guess I just call them all daffodils if they look ‘daffodil-like’
I think I just accept the flowers without researching more, but know a little more on the vegetable side of things! πŸ™‚

  1. Lisa,

I want to thank you for your Banana Rasberry loaf recipe! I just made one and I love, love the loaf!!!
It is my favorite now!!! I made your strawberry ice cream a couple weeks ago! It was super good also! This is so much fun! I think i will try Auntie Ruby’s Apple Slump next!! You should put all of these wonderful recipes in a Family Cookbook!!

    1. Hi Pat! I am so happy you had some success with the recipes!!(We are eating the banana loaf today and I seem to have impressed my chef visitor! Yay!) I just got some advice about how to make the ice cream less icy and more creamy which I will share when I test it… mind you, mine might be a little icy but it tastes pretty good! πŸ™‚
I hope you enjoy the Apple Slump. I haven’t made it for a while but I find it a really wonderful, simple and comforting sort of recipe… maybe its the old-fashionedness of it!
lol re cook-book! As soon as I get all my recipes out of random notebooks, off scraps of paper etc etc I will be a happy camper in the kitchen! Its on my ‘to do’ list to get a recipe book together with all my usual ones anyway – so I am not freaking out in the kitchen looking for random scraps of paper that might hold the key to making a baked self saucing choc pudding… haha – that kind of thing! Maybe next winters project??
Thanks so much for letting me know what you have tried! πŸ™‚
