No prizes for guessing where we went yesterday!!
After a number of really gloomy wet days it was sensational to get out – not to mention away from the news for a while
We met our cousins, Fiona and Abbey and we did an extended loop over the Sisters Hills and Rocky Cape. (Its so weird meeting family and not doing the hug thing and staying separate!)
We went up along the coast before heading up into the hills
Picnic lunch at the shell beach where we picked up lots of cowries and generally enjoyed a bit of fossicking!
The rope netting mess still very much a part of the scenery – I hadn’t realised that the rope must have been underwater so long it grew coral!
Social distancing…
Jeff managed to get about 30 minutes ahead of us by the time he was done! Clearly taking the personal space thing VERY seriously haha
Leaving the beach…
We actually didn’t do the full loop – there was a ‘short cut’ up over another hill that met the main track, so we thought we’d try it out.
Wow… it was a fair slog up but the views!!
We encountered a small white lipped snake… laying directly across the path! Was in no hurry to leave either. Pity I didn’t get a snap for you. I did a lot of ‘shooing’ and it was taking no notice of me at all!!
Finally it mustered up the energy to glide off into the scrub!
Looking over the other side to Rocky Cape
Just lovely tramping through the hills!
I was really footsore last night and this morning – it was the first real outing my new shoes have had. Did I tell you I got new hiking shoes?? Jeff bought them as a surprise as my other ones were falling apart.
They really are very comfortable – the soreness was really from the impact I think as I haven’t done a lot of hiking recently
So – Whats changed in the last few days in your area?
Tomorrow, nationwide, pubs, clubs and restaurants are to be closed. Take-away will be ok. Schools were to remain open but three states are pretty much saying nope, we’re closing schools.
I am sure it will be all sorted in the next 48 hours.
Interstate travel is to be restricted.
The numbers of new cases are steadily climbing.
Again – Jeff and I living the lifestyle we do with no kids – we aren’t finding our daily life/routine a lot different. Except I try to go to the supermarket even less 🙂
Disappointed in small things like no soap workshops or markets, but easy things to go without.
The biggest conundrum I have is whether to visit Ruby or not!!
What is worse? A small tiny risk to visit? Or not visiting a 103 year old lady who really isn’t able to do much else but enjoy company when presented with it!!? We saw Margie in the supermarket today – keeping all nice and separate – and she worries about the same thing.
I wonder where we will all be at in 3-6 months time? How our lives are changing!!
Take care everyone!
Cheers
We are in complete shutdown here, since NYS is one of the highest states with cases. That said, I’m upstate, and we don’t yet have a single case reported in our county. Because there is a regional hospital here, yes, the patients are here, but they don’t get counted where they are being treated.
Did my “normal” Saturday jaunt downtown for breakfast [carry out] and the Farmer’s Market. Since I’m in the High Risk Group, said my goodbyes to my friends there. Won’t do this again til things calm down and that will be quite a while. In fact, son #2 gave me a lecture about going out! Went very early so I was the only customer at the café and the farmer’s were setting up. Left when I verified that the baker wasn’t going to show up.
Live in a summer sports tourism location and one of the major draws has announced they aren’t even opening this summer. Thought they’d go month to month. Many people here move out during the summer and rent their homes. The income just from the summer will provide them with cash to pay an entire year’s expenses. The ripple effect will be tremendous.
Re Ruby, lots of pics circulating of people visiting the elderly through glass. One was a young grandson playing tic-tac-toe on a glass door. Each participant on either side of closed door. Another was a son sitting on the porch talking on a cell with the dad sitting on other side of a picture window. There should be someway to visit Ruby without getting close.
Glad to read that you and yours are surviving. Take care.
Hello – thank-you for your update! I am quite interested in hearing of whats going on in different places and how people are coping and what measures are being put in place. As you say, the ripple effect of this will be huge.
Glad you’ve got things set in place to stay away from people as much as possible. Its going to be so hard for so many 🙁
I’ll give Ruby a call sometime today. Because she is almost blind and her hearing isn’t the best, I am thinking through the window might be more frustrating than fun for her. I did see that post somewhere and thought it was a really good idea generally though! We saw Margie the other day in the supermarket and she said Ruby was in pretty good spirits.
I just had my market guy drop off 32 bales of straw! Guess I won’t be looking for things to do today! 🙂
Take care xx
In West Virginia, schools, restaurants (except take out), stores except grocery, agriculture and home improvement are closed. Many are working from home is possible. Our state was the last to get the virus, but it’s here now. We’re hunkering down on the 107 acre farm amid hoping the social distancing flattens the curve and slows the spread. Stay safe.
A farm is a pretty great place to be right now!! Watching the numbers of new cases rise is alarming – but as you say… if we can flatten that curve we can help our medical people and save lives. Its going to be a tough thing whatever we do – esp jobs and mental health.
Tassies numbers are slowly growing. I just heard this evening that all tourists here are being kicked out by Sunday!! Quite drastic. Parks have closed all overnight hiking – day hiking still ok. Things change daily and its hard to keep up!
Stay well and positive! Thanks for the news from your end of the world!! xx
