Well! I turned 47 today!! How did that happen?
I spent a pretty great afternoon with Jeff up at my cousins place.
Fiona and I got together to start sorting our gear and making lists.
Don’t Fiona and Paul have the most stunning views??
Anyway, we have decided on the slightly heavier two man tent even though we are planning to try to sleep in the huts most nights. The smaller tent isn’t that much difference in weight when considering the comfort factor if we have to sleep in it together!! The two man needs a little patching and TLC, but will be perfect apart from that.
Paul has lent me his pack liner – essential up there!!!
I decided I needed to get into the spirit of things by cooking up a meal to test our gear (and my dehydrating skills)
32gms of dried veggie mix was enough when rehydrated and mixed in with noodles.
Perfect. Even tasted good!!!
Fiona has some other fancy packs of dehydrated food so we won’t get bored at dinner time.
So, we know how the cooking stuff works so we are set!
We have alarmingly long lists and lots of layers of clothes as the weather really has turned cold. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see snow up there while we are trekking!
My lovely practical Nurse bought me a couple of packs of heat patches for my birthday and assured me it would be the best thing EVER while up on the hike! Our friend Ruth gave him some before his trek and apparently they were fabulous!
Really want to keep the weight down this time.ย I have a few areas where I am cutting back – so much water up there at the moment so will use a smaller capacity drink bottle, (or the full litre one not filled) Jeff used his collapsible cup to scoop water as he hiked. Nice and easy!
Only taking the wide angle lens for my camera. Not worrying about changing lenses so that will cut back a bit on weight too.
I will lay everything out tomorrow now that I have a list!
So excited!!
Cheers!
HAPPY ๐ BIRTHDAY my daughter had her 48 Tues. looks like u r ready for your stroll๐hope all goes well and have a safe journey. Love your new hair cut.
Thanks Linda – and Happy Birthday to your daughter too!! I reckon I have a few more days packing and repacking before I am set!! I enjoy preparing. Reckon we are in for a chilly walk tho!! ๐
Happy Birthday Lisa. I have been reading your posts again for a while but haven’t commented. Somehow I got kicked off and could not get back on. I had another email address so changed to that one and a now reading again. Hope your trip goes well – looks like you are nearly ready. Spring has finally arrived here in North Carolina. My garlic, potatoes and some lettuce are coming up in the garden. Tomato seeds and pepper seeds are planted and beginning to pop up but it is still quite a while before they will be able to go outside. So happy to have my hands back in the dirt!
Hello!! Thankyou for the birthday wishes!! hmmmm – I still can’t get emails from wordpress. Haven’t fiddled with things yet just in case I kill something really important!! ๐
Glad you are back though!
Oh I bet you are loving the change in weather!! It will be lovely watching and hearing about others starting gardens while I sit back in front of the fire! (Not that I am ready for winter quite yet!!)
When do you harvest your garlic? Not for a while yet I am thinking?
Happy Birthday!! Thank you for sharing your life and adventures!!
Thank-you Janet!! ๐
Happy Birthday! thanks for letting us Americans peek at your life there in Tasmania.
Thanks Elizabeth! hopefully I will be out there a bit more soon… I am getting wedged in at home the last little while! The super grey dark days have got me a little unmotivated to get out and into the garden!!! ๐
Happy birthday! (Although I don’t care for mine). I sure notice the difference in my body as I get older (52).
How exciting to get ready for your trip. It is just as much fun looking forward to it.
Thank you for sharing. I read your blog every day, although I don’t comment enough. Your life is so busy and fun!
Thank-you Janet!! Yes… My brain doesn’t feel like its approaching 50, but the body will tell you loud and clear at times! (Says silly me planning for a ridiculously long hike haha). I agree.. planning and looking forward to the adventure is a heap of fun too!
This summer sure has been keeping me hopping! I always feel I am behind the 8 ball tho. Never mind. The jobs will eventually get done and soon winter will be here which will give me time to wind down and catch up!! I am already enjoying evenings by the fire!! Hope your weekend has been lovely!
Happy Birthday, Lisa!! Looks like youโre just about ready to head out!! Youโre so smart to try everything out before you go!! I read your blog everyday!! Thank you for sharing your life with us!!
Thanks Pat!! Was a fun day starting our packing plans. Did more today, but will continue in earnest tomorrow. I am sure I will put everything in my pack, then panic and do a brutal cull of lots of things… although when packing for this kind of trip you think you are being so frugal to start with!! ๐
Thank-you for reading daily (or whenever I blog which seems a bit hit and miss lately!)
Hope you have had a lovely Easter Weekend!!
Happy Birthday! Hope you had a lovely day. I’m 47 on Monday ๐ Not quite sure how it happened either!
Enjoy your trek- exciting!
Thank-you Hazel!! And have a wonderful birthday yourself on Monday!! I find I have to count, add and subtract to work out my age recently!! I need a nice round number! I am sure it will happen soon enough! eep!
Of course, I’m late to the party. Happy Birthday! I’m so excited for your trip. I hope you can stay warm!
