Searching For Spring!

Saturated!

Goodbye Yard – Hello Swamp. Or maybe quagmire. That’s a better word. Welcome to Norwich Quagmire – bring your own gumboots! πŸ˜€

I tipped another 112mm of rain out of the gauge today, bringing July’s total rainfall so far to 334mm (A bit over 13 inches!)

Last years TOTAL rainfall was only 679mm (nearly 27 inches)

So far this year we are up to 871mm (34 inches)

After living through droughts I am always resolved not to complain about beautiful rain… but I am VERY keen to see summer back this year! πŸ™‚

Today I turned my woodpile from this –

Today

Slightly sore arms and shoulders tonight!

In between rainfall I snooped around the yard for signs of spring (yeah – we still have a month of winter to go but I am ever hopeful)

Is it too early for daffodils?

Its great to see the signs of spring this early – I know we have another soggy, gloomy month coming up, so this is encouraging!

Now – what do you reckon? Cabbage or Broccoli? Just not sure which yet… altho upon closer inspection today I am leaning towards cabbage! What do YOU reckon??? Β πŸ˜€

A happy traveller through life! Right now living in NW Tasmania with a gorgeous Nurse-Husband, a fool of a Siamese Cat and several chickens. We love our fairly simple lifestyle of growing a lot of what we eat and enjoying the stunning surrounds of our little patch.

  1. Hi Lisa – Wish there was some way you could share some of that water. I am over here in Spencer, North Carolina, USA and the temperature is close to 100 with no rain in sight. My garden and flowers are drying up. I am on city water and can’t afford to do much watering to keep things alive. There are clouds this morning and I am holding out hope that some moisture will be wrung out before the day is through.

Thanks so much for your blog. I look forward every day to seeing what is going on down there in Tasmania with you and your family. I hope Ruby is doing well. Stay warm and dry.

    1. Hi Beverly!I certainly wish I COULD share that water! It seems extreme to be without rain for 3 months and then get drowned! Do you save your rinse water and the shower water while it runs to get the right temp? I was doing that over summer… every scrap that we could went back onto the garden! Tedious at times, but …. πŸ™‚ Are you allowed to catch water where you are in rain barrels? I have read the US has some funny laws in some areas about catching and utilising your rain water.
Try hanging some clothes on the line to dry! haha – thats a sure fire way for me to make rain! Seriously – I know what those long stretches of dry are like and I hope you get some relief soon!
So glad you are enjoying the blog – even in my slow winter times!!
We will check in on Ruby tomorrow & let you know how that troublesome foot of hers is behaving!
      Have a lovely day

  2. Lisa, the caps are by Coleman and can be found on Amazon as Coleman Powercap Hands Free LED Flashlight Cap and they sell for $13.41. Hope your husband can find it. Linda

  3. This is probably a terribly silly question – but do you get snow there, in winter? Or is it mostly rain like us in the Pacific Northwest?

    1. Mostly rain where we are. Only 20 minutes away we have been seeing snowfall this season – not the usual thing tho. Higher and more inland = more snow!

      1. Right, so almost identical to us. We get a freak snowstorm once every few years (we’re due – and believe me when I say I did not regret finally plunking down for some good winter boots recently), but that’s about it. Nice to know I can go find some a short trip away though!
