Thursday…

Hello! Look at us!! Stampeded into March so now we are in Autumn!
And yes.. I put the fire on.
My hopes for any tomatoes ripening are starting to plummet.

Pip update… back at the vets today as he really wasn’t getting better. So stressful… (Glad I didn’t have kids if this is the way I act around a cat with a bottom problem haha)(I’d need to be hospitalised!)

Anyway, they gave him a heavy sedative so they could look at what was going on properly without fear of being shredded – still found nothing obvious, but with the tests and scans at least everything there is looking fine (Bladder, kidneys, infections etc)

So… we will keep the cone on properly and only off if we are watching him closely. He was given an antibiotic as well, plus we have a kind of a wash thing I have to do to his penis area twice a day.
The fun never stops here!! I managed the wash this evening without too many dramas but he is still groggy so tomorrow should be a bundle of fun.

Anyway, here is Pip helping to keep the doorway upright!!

Did a hopeful round of the garden for any tomato that looked slightly ripe

Not bad… but most of these came from the self seeded plants out the back here rather than the proper plots

Thyme… plus a bunch of basil and oregano for the spag.bol sauce I made today!
Yummo

The wind is going crazy – lots of pears falling before their time. They do stress ripen a bit so will try some tomorrow

Started cleaning up the garlic the other day:

Its fun for the first little while, but then my brain gets bored… might have to put a movie or audio book on outside and listen while cleaning up.

Looking (and smelling) lovely

I already have orders for seed garlic!

I went for a drive with Sharon and family this afternoon – they have some of their cows on this amazing property and Clarabelle (I think) just gave birth to a calf!!

We found the cows and Hamish the Highland Bull, but no calf…
So there was a lot of frantic paddock and bushwalking (me in crocs haha) to locate the tiny Moo

Hamish on his way over to see what we were doing

Paul finally found her (discovered she was a girl… only 24 hours old) tucked up under a tree in shelter. Mum came over and herded her baby away.

Hamish up closer…

Tiny Baby Moo far far away. Hopefully in the near future they will go back to Sharon and Pauls place and I will be able to have a cuddle.

Hamish being all posey… Such a handsome fellow

I should have known a short trip down the road with Sharon and Paul wouldn’t be boring! Totally got my exercise in today traipsing about looking for a baby cow! 😀

Lottie!! Such a little farm kid in her element!!

Next time I’ll arrange the sun to be in a better spot

Anyway, once the stress of making sure the calf was fine and healthy, it was a lovely little jaunt around the paddocks with stunning views and sunshine!

So lucky to live in this spectacular place!
Hope you’ve all had a great week…
Cheers

  1. Poor Pip! I hope he feels better soon. Glad the baby cow was found safe and is back with her mom. The views there are absolutely beautiful! You do live in such a lovely place.

  2. Pippppppp ><

you all are starting fall and we are looking at starting spring here. my seeds were ordered and in a good month ago, but i think this year my little veg plants will be store bought. i have only a handful pots for veg so i can keep them up on the deck away from the landlord's errant mowing this year. i don't have much room for starting veg plants in doors due to houseplant propagations for extra cash, and last year's seed started veg didn't really thrive like i had hoped. but i think getting one or two of each type of pot-loving tomato, eggplant, bell pepper, etc. should be fine for me. and this year's long garden bed along the garage is going to be full of several 'new-to-me' flowers and flowering herbs (ie chamomile inspired by yours). i'm looking forward to it 🙂

also! i was able to get some white netting to try as row covers this year. still need to get to the big hardware store soonish to sort out irrigation tubing and some stakes that fit the tubing. my rows are rather narrow, so my partner wants to make sure the tubing is flexible enough to bend such a short width.

    1. haha re Pip!!
Exciting looking at the seeds for spring…You’ve got lots of lovely plans!! I hope the chamomile goes well – its really pretty. I’ll have to replant as mine ended up getting swamped by a few other space greedy plants!
Hope the weather is being nice for you!!

  3. Ohhhhh, Mr. Pip. I’m so sorry your illness has not gone away. Huddle by the fire, get some rest and take care of yourself. You have a good mom.

Lisa, I always enjoy the photographs. Such a splendid view of scenery and activity. Hamish is a big, floofy boy. Hope you get to see the calf up close.

Our winter had to remind us it is still here. We had a horrible ice storm a couple weeks ago. It knocked out power to the entire town for 6-10 days. Wrecked havoc on the poor trees and telephone poles and wires. today the sun is shining and it will be 60 degrees. I’m too old to shiver and be without power!

    1. Pip is snuggled on my lap… he still has a bit of an ‘issue’ haha but has to wear the cone less…
I haven’t seen that calf up close yet, but they got another one that I did get a cuddle with and will share photos soon… they are so adorable
I hope your weather is looking up!!!

  4. Hope Pip gets well soon. We worry so over our fur babies. Loved the scenery of the baby cow search. They probably think all cows have gorgeous views! Haha
